Rosslyn Plant New Utilities Upgrade and New Machine Bay Installation using International Standardized Internal Company Design Concepts
Scope of Work
As per the client’s standard operating procedure, all project’s go on tender and a minimum of three contractors are required to tender. After LAS established its E&I division in early 2019, we took the opportunity to tender on the project. The client-controlled the entire procedure, and all necessary documentation was submitted for the tendering process. After a successful negotiation with the client’s Head Office in India surrounding price and execution requirements, LAS was awarded the electrical and Instrumentation project.
The Solution
LAS oversaw the manufacturing and delivery of all required panels to local and international, client-specific standards. We further installed an extension of 2x 1250A withdrawable Air Circuit Breakers, onto one of two 2500A bus-sections currently utilized in the main LV substation. A 1250A 36kA machine bay panel was installed as per the design requirements. All new wiring was installed and commissioned. A 1250A 36kA utilities panel was installed to feed all plant and ancillary support equipment.
LAS further manufactured all structural supports and racking required for selected parts of the project; standard off the shelf racking as also utilized as necessary. A new earth pit was installed 8000(L) x 1000(W) x 2000 (D) [mm] to engineering requirements, including the related layer works and use of the earthing compound. In total, LAS installed approximately 800m of 4C x 300mm² XLPE, Al. Cable in a working factory environment under challenging conditions. Cable was connected from ground level up to a height of 13m in the air on cable racking for approximately 80m. All other cabling ranging down to 2.5mm² SURFIX cable was installed to achieve the project requirements. LAS was also responsible for all cable terminations and testing associated with the cable works.
LAS utilized customized in-house equipment for all cable stringing and installation. This included an electrically operated winch, 35 aerial cable rollers, 5 corner rollers, a variety of cable pulling socks, swivels and various rigging equipment such as cable drum jacks, wire-rope slings, shackles, chain-pull lifts, block and tackles and snatch blocks. All equipment is tested and accredited by suitably qualified agents. Over and above, utilizing our equipment range in our projects, we also offer equipment rental and cable installation services.
